What the heck is Somatics?
Somatics is a field within bodywork and movement studies which emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The term is used in movement therapy to signify approaches based on the soma, or "the body as perceived from within," What is Serenity Somatics?
Serenity Somatics™ is neuromuscular movement education. This involves learning to reset the resting level of your muscles by "re-booting" your Central Nervous System. This will help you to achieve greater mobility, freedom of movement and to live without pain. Based on the work of Thomas Hanna (Ph.D., & author of Somatics - Reawakening the mind's control of movement, flexibility, and health). Somatics is the ONLY type of bodywork to target & reverse Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA). What makes Hanna Somatics different from other types of Somatics?
Thomas Hannas unique contribution to field of Somatic's are; the technique of pandiculation*, the neurophysiology and the understanding of the participation of the brain during movement. Hanna Somatics puts a great deal of emphasis on the learning process that happens for the participant. Somatics can help with the following:

Involves the part of the brain called the motor cortex. It is a two part process. First you make a comfortable voluntary contraction of muscles groups. Second, you do a slow, controlled release of the muscles to relaxation. This process naturally lengthens tight & painful muscles. |
